The beautiful city of Coimbra Coimbra
Coimbra is a University City full of history and beautiful architecture, just a 30 minute drive away. Once the Capital, prior to Lisbon, Coimbra retains a laid back atmosphere unlike the usual hustle and bustle of a major city. As well as being spoilt for choice for bars, café’s and restaurants the city boasts many sights and attractions such as museums, theatres, cathedrals, art galleries, libraries, castles and nearby beaches. This really is a place oozing with culture.

Conimbriga - Roman RuinsConimbriga – Roman Ruin
The ancient city of Conimbriga is the largest Roman settlement in Portugal, and is classified as a National Monument. Conimbriga was built in layers with the first dating back to the 9th century BC. The Romans arrived in the 2nd Century A.D., conquering the Celtic inhabitants and establishing a city. The city walls are largely intact and the mosaic floors and foundations of many houses remain. On site you will find a museum housing the artifacts found during excavation, and also a café/restaurant and gift shop.

Bucaco PalaceBucaco Palace
Formally a Palace belonging to the Portuguese Royal Family, Buçaco is situated in the middle of 250 acres of woodland originally planted by Carmelite monks. Here you will find 700 varieties of trees from the New World discovered by the famous Portuguese explorers. The forest paths take you on a journey through exotic plants, waterfalls, lakes and gardens. The hotel boasts a fabulous restaurant and a wine cellar of great renown. The Buçaco Wines, ‘mis en bouteille au chateau’, are also a legendary specialty not available elsewhere.

Serra da EstrelaSerra de Estrela
Serra da Estrela, about 90 minutes away, is the highest mountain range in Portugal and offers plentiful skiing opportunities. The mountain range is about 100km long and is 30km at its widest point. It is formed from a huge granite ridge that once formed the southern frontier of the country. Because of its beautiful forests and magnificent views, along with its oddly shaped crags, gorges, mountain streams and lakes, the area ranks among Portugal’s outstanding scenic attractions.

Local VillagesLocal Villages
Numerous local villages offer many activities within a 20 minute radius of Casa Das Videiras.
